SUPPORTING THE TRAINING OF FUTURE ECONOMISTS

In addition to promoting the exchange of information and economic research with educational centers, universities, national and international foundations, with similar objectives and programs, the Fundación has also maintained collaboration programs with foreign universities that have allowed us to present candidacies of Dominican students for masters programs in economics and economic policy. Soe students have benefited of partial scholarships granted by the IDB and the World Bank under agreement with the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUCC), Columbia University in New York, and Harvard University in Boston.

To the extent that programs such as the PIMC of the PUCC became popular, the Fundación motivated the Central Bank authorities to support the presentation of candidacies of young Dominican economists for said program. Many of the Dominican students who entered these master’s programs and then returned to the country, stand out as successful professionals performing important positions in both the public sector and/or the private sector. Among these are: Rita Mena Peguero (UNDP), Jaqueline Mora (Analytica), Magín Díaz (DGII), Héctor Salcedo (MacroFinance and Feller-Rate), Riccio Hermida (SIPEN, BCRD), Ramón González (Director of National Accounts BCRD), Martín Franco (Director of Economics PUCMM and Coordinator of Public Finances in MEPyD), Raúl Hernández (CIEF Consulting) , Raúl Ovalle (DGCP, Banreservas), Richard Lueje (Banco Popular), Pilar Haché (CLARO), Lorraine Cruz (CLARO), Manuel Amador (Stanford University and Federal Reserve Bank of Minnesota), Pilar Cañas (BHD), Edmundo Rivera (BHD), Liz Bolonotto (Banco Popular), José Antonio Pellerano (Analytica), Leritza Monsanto (Vicini Group), Brenda Villanueva (BCRD), Ian Abud (BCRD), Frank Fuentes (BCRD), Carlos Julio Camilo (BCRD), Odalis Mars (BCRD), Francisco Torres (BCRD) and Evelio Paredes (Ministry of Finance).
